Who is Who!

Kaman Hansford – Clinical Team Lead

GP for 12 years with a background as salaried, partner and locum GP with experience managing mental health patients in different areas of Southampton exposed to different demographics.

Kaman has completed a postgraduate diploma in clinical psychiatry and able to advise on more complex patients who may not require secondary care support but may need review of medication and identifying other therapy options in collaboration with the rest of the mental health team and close liaison with College Keep CMHT.

Kaman also works 2 days a week as a GP retainer at Cheviot Road Surgery in West PCN and is a busy mummy to a 7- and 3-year-old.

Caroline Carr - Senior Mental Health Nurse

Caroline Carr qualified as a mental health nurse in 2001 and started work in a Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU). This sparked an interest in forensic nursing and resulted in 14 years spent on high dependency wards at a high secure psychiatric hospital.  These challenging but enjoyable years had their highs and lows (!) but overall taught lifelong skills managing risk and the hard to engage treatment resistant patient. Her passion is working hard to break down barriers to accessing services - skills proving invaluable in primary care.

She enjoys working with all ages and all types of patients that come her way.

She has worked at Solent GP Surgery since December 2018 and cannot speak highly enough of all the supportive colleagues that have helped her find her feet in primary care.

Outside of work she is a keen marathon/ultra-runner and is usually to be found in a pair of trainers running up a hill….

Beth Woodruff - Senior Mental Health Nurse

I particularly enjoy supporting individuals with anxiety and depression however am also familiar with all sorts of mental health including personality disorders, schizophrenia, and bipolar affective disorder. I tend to take positive risks and work in collaboration with the individual, helping them to identify personal goals and improve their wellbeing. I am trained in motivational interviewing which is a communication style that empowers people to make positive changes.

Karen Walker - Senior Mental Health Nurse

Many years of working within mental health services, from acute wards to community settings within the South of England and abroad. Experienced in delivering CBT/DBT focused interventions to enable a patient’s recovery.

Sharon Hider - Occupational Therapist (OT)

Sharon is an occupational therapist with a keen interest in mental health. Her experience includes older person mental health (inpatient team) and neuropsychiatry (inpatient team). As an OT, Sharon is passionate about function and meaningful activities to promote good mental health. As such, she will be running a one day a week clinic where she will work with people functionally. Sharon understands the close link between mental and physical health and is passionate to work with individuals understanding them holistically by supporting them to set personal goals and/or problem solve areas that are difficult and impacting their mental health.

As an occupational therapist, my knowledge of medications and being able to advice on this is not there – as such I will hand these over to my mental health nurse colleague or to the GP.

Amy Graham - Peer Recovery Worker

Amy is in her final year at university studying for a degree in psychology: counselling and mental health. She is passionate about using her lived experience and skills she has already learned to help others.
